That variety extends to so much of this game, with bullet-hell twin-stick shooter elements, side-scrolling camera changes, traversal and combat challenges, there really is like 3 games worth of mechanics in here, and each one feels like so much more than a gimmick, being fully realized game systems. The weapon variety is nice however, with plenty of options for different weapon types and abilities, which makes up for the lack of challenging enemies. It's very hack-and-slash in the most barebones terms, never really pushing you to master the gameplay like a proper action game. It looks great and feels great, the issue comes that there isn't really much depth to the combat here. The game controls wonderfully, with lots of great movement and combat systems to engage with, no surprise given that Platinum Games made Bayonetta before this. On the gameplay front, it's a lot of form over function.
